Jordan, July 21, 2024 – Technology Strategies Middle East (TSME) collaborated with Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JoPACC) through its JOIN Fincubator to launch the first-ever fintech university rally in Jordan which ran from July 18-20 at Al-Hussein Youth City. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Adel Al-Sharkas, Chairman of JoPACC and Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan.
Fintech Hackathon: Fintech Rally 2024 University Edition is a competition aimed at fostering future industry leaders in fintech by engaging university students. It was also organized to develop innovation within the fintech ecosystem across Jordan.
“The Fintech Hackathon served as an important ground for giving a real chance to the next generation of Jordanian fintech talent. It presented an opportunity for students to tackle real-world challenges and develop solutions for them. We were honored to explore new ideas and impressive innovations for JoPACC’s CliQ system, and support students in turning their ideas into reality.” Said Basil Ikhlaif, Director of Technology and Consulting Services, TSME.
Over a period of three days, 18 teams participated in the competition involving 75 students from 10 universities. They worked on presenting new ideas and creating cutting-edge solutions that would enhance JoPACC’s CliQ/JoMoPay instant transfer and payments system.
TSME experts joined hands with their JoPACC counterparts ahead of the hackathon to give students training sessions and workshops on ReactJS, React Native, Business Process Engines, APIs, and an overview of CliQ and JoMoPay to equip them with the necessary tools to tackle challenges and compete for the win.
Concluding in a pitch competition, teams presented their solutions to a jury panel of industry leaders for a chance to win. Throughout the Rally, TSME provided expert mentorship and consultation to guide students to build innovative processes and solutions.
An awards ceremony was held at the end of the event, crowning six teams as the champions of the competition in terms of Technical and Design achievements. In the technical category, Middle East University claimed the top spot, followed by Tafila Technical University in second and Applied Science Private University in third. Meanwhile, the design category saw Al-Hussein Technical University as the champion, Princess Sumaya University as the runner-up, and Middle East University rounding out the top three. Their efforts and performance were recognized by the jury panel and celebrated, becoming a testament to the importance of empowering Jordan’s future fintech leaders.
Our continued commitment to enabling the next generation of fintech leaders with JoPACC is still going strong. This comes after TSME extended its partnership with JoPACC for another five years, following the success of the Future Fintech Disruptors Academy, a high-end program that empowers students and junior to mid-level staff of financial institutions.
